Everyone knew that the ice is melting right now, right? Did you know that the ice melting could create a lot of other problems for us? Well apparently it can, the ice decline and warming trends are changing the vegetation in nearby arctic coastal areas, according to two University of Alaska Fairbanks scientists. These two scientists are Uma Bhatt and Skip Walker. The two scientists analyzed 10 years worth of data and research on the subject. The data shows that the ice loss is making drastic changes in the marine and terrestrial food chains. There is a loss of sea-ice algae, the planktons' food for survival. The fish can't survive without plankton. The loss of ice has destroyed old pathways of animal migration across sea ice while opening new pathways for marine animals in others. Some animals and plants will become more isolated. There are also some areas that are showing recent cooling trends and declines in vegetation productivity. The two are currently trying to figure out how to deal with these problems.
I chose to write about this article because it seemed interesting to me. It seemed interesting to me because everyone knows that the pollution is causing the ice to melt in arctic areas, which is already a big problem. Now we know that the loss of ice could do more damage to the ecosystems than we ever thought possible. This gives us a new look at things and people will want to help out with this. People could help that polar bear in the picture get off that iceberg and onto safer land. Don't leave that bear hanging for dear life on the iceberg. We got to save the polar bears, the penguins, the seals and all the others as well. If we don't, bad things will happen to them. That is what is happening in this article.
Sometimes you wonder what would happen if we just let it be. What if we left the problem there and let all the sea-ice and the algae die out? This is what would have happened. The plankton would start to die out, causing the fish to have no more food to eat. The fish would die out, causing the polar bears and the penguins to have no more food to eat. If that didn't kill them, the lack of ice will. They won't be able to survive in warm weather or the ice will create new migration routes. From that, the animals will become more isolated. Therefore, it is a good thing that scientists Uma Bhatt and Skip Walker are researching this problem to make sure that things like this don't happen again. I'm finished with this article now. I'll see you all later. Peace!
